A cosmetics store in Melbourne allows creamy walls and an undulating ceiling to serve as a neutral backdrop for thousands of colourful makeup products.

The one-room shop combines white plaster, timber, stone and acrylic to create a space where the products can act as the focal points Ð though shoppers certainly canÕt miss the bulbous wave-like ceiling installation.

'The big challenge was designing the biomorphic ceiling and creating the plaster moulds for it,' explains Sonja Duric, a co-director at Artillery Interior Architecture alongside Claudette Leeming. Duic says after the plaster moulds were assembled, gaps were hard plastered on site.

The chevron, herringbone, parquetry flooring was inspired by the clientÕs lipstick products, which are hand-made by artisans in metal moulds. Acrylic drawers and cabinetry was custom-made by local artists.
